Ancient Lives, New Stories: London Postgraduate Conference for the Ancient Near East

https://lpcane18.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/logo-no-name2.pngThe first London Postgraduate Conference for the Ancient Near East will be held at The British Museum (London, United Kingdom) on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December 2018.

The London Postgraduate Conference for the Ancient Near East is an opportunity for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) and early career researchers to showcase their research at any stage of progress. The primary aim of this event is to create a forum of discussion for emerging scholars and to foster exchanges between the diverse disciplines working on the Ancient Near East, including Archaeology, Assyriology, Anthropology, Historiography, Conservation and Museum Studies.

The conference is open to all interested in knowing more about current research on the Ancient Near East.

The chronological periods under consideration are the Palaeolithic to the Islamic conquest, and the geographical scope, Anatolia to Afghanistan and the Caucasus to the Arabian Peninsula.

Under the theme Ancient Lives, New Stories, this year’s speakers will present their current work in thematic sessions. Participants are encouraged to reflect on aspects of their research related to topics including but not limited to:

  • Private and public life
  • Trade and crafts
  • Movement and communication
  • Environment and subsistence
  • Architecture and the household
  • Sacred and profane

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

A keynote lecture will be delivered on each day, respectively by Professor Andrew George (SOAS-University of London) and Professor Nicholas Postgate (University of Cambridge).

  • 1st August: abstract submission opens
  • 30th September: abstract submission deadline
  • 15th October: notification of abstract acceptance
