This handbook presents contemporary knowledge about the “letter” as a text type and, through its diverse chapters from various cultural disciplines, is the first to make the dimensions of the epistolary culture that shaped antiquity tangible. The letter, as both a textual and communicative phenomenon, is extensively analyzed through systematic conceptual-history articles and source-based historical case studies.
